South Island Ravens

The South Island Ravens hockey team exists to provide the opportunity for persons with developmental and intellectual disabilities in the GreaterVictoria area to learn and play organized hockey.

It first started on a small ice surface rented by Gus and Wendy Ascroft in 2012 with a small number of players and has grown to two groups – an Under 18 team and Over 18 team with over 30 participating.

Our Founders: Wendy Georgia and Gus

Players with developmental and intellectual disabilities of all ages are welcome.

Ravens Hockey provides many benefits – the opportunity to participate in healthy physical activity, be part of a team sport, and hang out with your teammates. This leads to improvement of life skills, physical and mental health, and overall quality of life, and generally makes you feel great!

The team and players are supported by a number of volunteers – coaches and assistants on the ice, and by their parents and families. The teams practice and have games with other teams in the community. Our program strives to provide a welcoming and safe environment so that our players can learn to skate, handle the puck and have a great time.

Success is measured by smiles, sweat and laughs in the dressing room.

Hockey sessions are held every Sunday morning from September to March at Juan de Fuca Arena.

Hockey on the Rock 2025

The South Island Ravens players and parents will be hosting the annual adaptive hockey tournament – Hockey on the Rock 2025 – in Victoria on March 29, 2025.

This is the first time this tournament has been hosted on the island and is the only opportunity, each year,  for the teams to play against their peers from across the province.   To date, we have 14 teams from all over British Columbia who have committed to attend with approximately 280 players and about  500 persons in total coming to the tournament.

See the tournament page for more information.
